Be the dAream!

deviantHEART is pairing with the American Cancer Society to start a virtual Relay for Life right here on deviantART! As such, in May and June, deviantHEART is going purple! We have some fantastic groups and deviants already on board to help us achieve our dAreams!

The dAream Relay is a virtual Relay for Life... Just like the real thing but on the internet! Best of all, everyone from all over the world can participate!

:bulletpurple: About the Relay for Life
The Relay for Life is an event held annually in the United States to help raise cancer awareness and raise money to help the research effort to find a cure for cancer. This event also recognizes and helps survivors as well as celebrates the lives of and mourns the deaths of cancer victims through the purchase and display of luminaries. All funds go to the American Cancer Society, the "largest voluntary health organization in the United States."

The Relay for Life lasts 24 hours (because "cancer never sleeps"). Communities gather in teams and walk in shifts to show support and raise money for the fight against cancer. Luminaries are lit, games are played... It is a wonderful experience and very family friendly. At some point during the night, a huge event in my book to be sure, a series of luminaries are positioned to spell out the word "HOPE" and lit. It is a beautiful thing to see. I cry every single time.

:bulletpurple: The dAream Relay
It is my dream to have a virtual Relay for Life right here on deviantART. I have never in my life been part of a community with so many caring and giving people before. I meet a new person every day on deviantART, and am a better person for it. If we all came together, we could have the largest and greatest Relay for Life right here, at our second home, deviantART. A 24 hour chat relay, a HOPE and Relay themed art contest, survivor stories, a guest speaker, and tons of fun games and activities. That is the dAream anyway...

:bulletpurple: :bulletpurple: Making the dAream a Reality :bulletpurple: :bulletpurple:

I have sent a request to moonbeam13 and am waiting to hear back from her. We already have some great groups on board and ready to help out... AnotherContestGroup has generously put us at the top of their charity blog! dAmnU has offered to set up and help moderate the 24 hour chat event too! And I am speaking with a cancer.org agent to see if we can donate the art pieces by the winners from the contest I am planning! What am I talking about?? I am talking about trying to get our contest winners in this gallery! Yes, alongside celebrities.

:bulletpurple: :bulletpurple: We Need Some Help :bulletpurple: :bulletpurple:
Advertise
We need to get the word out about this! The dAream falls apart if we don't have excited deviants who want to come to the chat relay for at least a little while! Post news articles, post group blogs, post journals... Post on your personal websites! Tweet it. Facebook it. Submit stamps, ribbons, or luminaries (with or without the meme!). Submit your relay related works with a link to this blog in the description! You can't go wrong! You can use the logos here!

Create
Let's get some luminaries and ribbons circulating on the site to raise awareness! Join the contest! There is also the Survivor's Project! If you are a cancer survivor, share your story with as many groups as are willing to post it! Bring HOPE back. Cancer is bad, but cancer doesn't have to be the end.

:new: The Contest find out more here!
We are going to be running a full scale contest that every deviant on deviantART can participate in! We need prize donations for sure! Currently, we are thinking it will  be open to all art mediums though literature mediums, if taking a winning slot, may not be eligible to be sold on the ACS website (or they may be turned into a picture piece). The start and end dates are still up in the air as I am hoping deviantART will allow this to be a deviantART official contest. There would be a winning slot for digital, traditional, photography, and literature (maybe more, but that is right off the top of my head). All submissions for the contests, pending approval from the American Cancer Society, would have to provide a license or permission document for the ACS so the work could be placed on their website if it took 1st place in the contest in its category. Obviously, all submissions must be POSITIVE and HOPE / RELAY / SURVIVOR / CANCER related.

Volunteer
We need volunteers to spread the word! Do you moderate or are a founder of a group? Link to this blog! Repost this blog in your group or on your profile page! Feature news articles! Collect the art! You don't have to give money to help. You can give a click! We have a logo, we have a name, but we need volunteers to help USE THEM. And we need volunteers to help create more great custom art pieces for the dAream that everyone can use to help promote the event! Get your name out there. Get your work out there. Get your heart out there. And get cancer OUTTA HERE!

Go Purple!
Think you can go purple? Try it and see who you inspire! You can grab an icon for your group or for yourself! Add in the custom made logos by MamaLantiis to really make it POP! You can get those here.

There is so much more to do! MamaLantiis is making ribbon and luminaria memes, talking with the American Cancer Society, and coming up with ideas! Some ideas in the works are the Survivor's Project, a guest speaker, a site-wide contest with epic prizes, and a multitude of chat-related activities for the 24 hour chat event! But when??? We don't know that YET. We are working on hammering down a date for the chat event sometime in the 1st or 2nd week of June...
